Delrin / Acetal Machined Parts: Engineering Changes Without Mixed Revisions

Identify material not yet cut, work in progress, finished stock and shipped parts separately. State whether each can be used, reworked or must be segregated. Keep physical and document identification consistent so old and new revisions cannot enter the same assembly unintentionally.

Agree any new first-article evidence before releasing the revised batch. Record the authorised acceptance decision and the effective purchase-order release. A controlled transition protects supply continuity without allowing an obsolete drawing or temporary waiver to become the permanent manufacturing instruction.

Material review: homopolymer or copolymer identity, brand requirement and environmental compatibility need explicit selection. State the agreed designation and required evidence in the purchase specification. Where service performance depends on the material, the design authority must confirm suitability rather than delegating that decision to a generic machining quotation.

Geometry review: focus on thin walls, gear features, bore fits and abrupt section changes that affect stability. Inspection should address bore and diameter checks under agreed conditioning and measurement conditions, without assuming plastic fits behave like steel fits. Resolve any feature outside the confirmed measurement scope before ordering, and use the same drawing interpretation for the sample, production report and receiving checks.

Delivery protection: separate smooth functional surfaces and avoid packing loads that distort light sections. Identify the part and revision on the delivered batch. Damage, a material mix-up or an unclear report can prevent an otherwise dimensionally acceptable part from entering the assembly.
