Precision Bushings: Engineering Changes Without Mixed Revisions

Identify material not yet cut, work in progress, finished stock and shipped parts separately. State whether each can be used, reworked or must be segregated. Keep physical and document identification consistent so old and new revisions cannot enter the same assembly unintentionally.

Agree any new first-article evidence before releasing the revised batch. Record the authorised acceptance decision and the effective purchase-order release. A controlled transition protects supply continuity without allowing an obsolete drawing or temporary waiver to become the permanent manufacturing instruction.

Material review: metal and plastic choices depend on wear pair, lubrication, temperature and installation method. State the agreed designation and required evidence in the purchase specification. Where service performance depends on the material, the design authority must confirm suitability rather than delegating that decision to a generic machining quotation.

Geometry review: focus on bore, outside diameter, wall thickness, flange position and any lubrication features. Inspection should address bore and outside diameter at agreed locations, wall-related checks and dimensional acceptance before or after installation as specified. Resolve any feature outside the confirmed measurement scope before ordering, and use the same drawing interpretation for the sample, production report and receiving checks.

Delivery protection: avoid crushing thin rings and protect bore surfaces from grit or nicks. Identify the part and revision on the delivered batch. Damage, a material mix-up or an unclear report can prevent an otherwise dimensionally acceptable part from entering the assembly.
